NOTICE FOR THE AWARD OF RESEARCH GRANTS (M/F)

Summary: There is an open call for one (1) ResearchGrant (RG) no Departamento de ambiente e Ordenamento, in the scope of project “Estudo da localização dos projetos de reutilização da água em Portugal e a sua relação com os índices de desertificação do solo e de escassez de água.“.

1. Scientific Area: Environmental Sciences (Environmental Governance Planning) and related areas.

2. Funding Source: University of Aveiro own revenues.

3. Admission requirements: Students enrolled in Master's programmes in the area of Environmental Sciences (Environmental Planning and Governance) or related areas. 

Candidates must be attending the Internship/Dissertation/Project course (Admission requirement). 

Candidates should also have experience in carrying out literature reviews, quantitative and qualitative analysis of documents, knowledge of Geographic Information Systems and command of the English language (preferential factors).

The proof of enrolment must be made available until the contract is awarded, and the candidate may attach a declaration of honor to confirm that they meet the requirements for enrolment in an integrated master's degree, master's or doctoral program.

If the qualification has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution it must be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, under the terms of the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th, which approves the legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of Higher Education, attributed by foreign higher education institutions, and of paragraph e) of no. 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law no. 60/2018, of August 3rd, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the hiring act.

4. Eligibility: Applicants are eligible if they comply with paragraph a) of no.1 of article 2, of the Research Fellow Statute in the wording given by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th, and also the provisions of article 9 of the Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the University of Aveiro. 

5. Work plan: The work plan includes carrying out a literature review on the interface between territorial planning, prevention of water scarcity and the location of water reuse projects, surveying water reuse projects in Portugal, analysing their location in GIS and critically reflecting on the characteristics of soil scarcity and desertification, and proposing recommendations. Submission of a scientific article with the results.

6. Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Grant Holder, as amended by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of August 28th; Regulation no. 950/2019, of November 29th, published in Diário da República, no. 241, Series II, of December 16th (FCT, I.P. Research Grants Regulation); Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of August 16th (Legal regime for recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions).

7. Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Department of Environment and Planning (DAO) of the University of Aveiro, under the scientific supervision of Professor Maria Teresa Fidélis da Silva.

8. Duration of the grant(s): The grant non-renewable, will last 6 months, starting on April 1, 2025.

9. Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to €990,98, according to the table of values of monthly maintenance allowances, set out in Appendix III of the Scientific Research Grant Regulation of the University of Aveiro, subject to any updates that may occur and are applicable. The fellow may also be reimbursed for the amount corresponding to the Voluntary Social Security, in case of adherence to this plan.

10. Selection methods: The selection methods to be used will be the following: a) curriculum evaluation (50%), b) motivation letter (20%); c) interview assessing knowledge on the topic and fluency in English (30%).

In the event that none of the candidates for the competition meet the appropriate profile to carry out the work plan, the Board reserves the right not to grant the fellowship, ending the competition without any recruitment.

The Jury reserves the right not to propose the award of the scholarship if it considers that none of the candidates has the appropriate profile, experience and/or skills to carry out the work plan, ending the competition without any recruitment. Candidates whose final classification is less than 10 points (scale from 0 to 20 points) will not be eligible for the fellowship.

11. Composition of the Selection Jury: Prof. Doutora Maria Teresa Fidélis da Silva (President); Doutor Peter Roebeling (effective members); Prof. Doutora Filomena Martins (effective members); Prof. Doutor Luís Tarelho (substitute member); Prof. Doutora Isabel Nunes (substitute member).

12. Deadline for applications and how to submit applications: The call is open from March 1st to March 15th, 2025, and only applications submitted within the deadline will be admitted.

Applications must be formalized, mandatorily, by email to [email protected], with Cc to [email protected], in an email with the subject “Application for Research Grant – EdtlB.2-DAO/2025”.

Applications include the following documents, which are mandatory:

1) Application form for research grants, available at Research fellows - sgrh - Universidade de Aveiro (ua.pt) (https://www.ua.pt/pt/sgrh/bolseiros);

2) Curriculum vitae (CV) of the candidate;

3) Certificates of qualification of the academic degrees held and the training referred to in the CV;

4) Motivation letter;

5) Declaration of honor stating that it meets the requirements, and;

6) Other documents considered relevant.

They shall also indicate the e-mail address to which by such indication they accept to be notified for all purposes within this call. 

13. Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation shall be made public no later than 60 working days after the closing date for submission of applications and shall be notified to the applicants. The candidates are informed, in a prior hearing, under the terms established in the Code of Administrative Procedure, of the probable meaning of the final decision, and may, within 10 working days of this notification, express their opinion on this decision. The final results may be appealed to the Rector, to be submitted within 10 working days from the respective notification.

14. Tender duration: The final ranking list of candidates will be valid until June 30, 2025 for the purpose of constituting a reserve list for selection.
